Frequently asked questions of RBS contact phone number callers

I’m trying to make a payment, but the person I’m trying to pay has an account number that isn’t 8 digits, help?

The first step you should take, is to re-confirm the number with the payee. If this is still a number short, some banks need you to add a “0” to the beginning of the number.

If this is an international payment, you need to follow the steps for this type of payment and ask the payee for a SWIFT or IBAN number.

Why can’t I draw out all my money?

There is a difference between total balance and available balance. If you have recently had money paid into your account, this needs to clear with the bank first. If you recently made payments from your account and the payment isn’t effecting your available balance yet, it will show on your complete or total balance.

The available balance on your account if you have an overdraft, will be different too. E.G. You have £500 in your account and a £300 overdraft, the total balance will show as £500, but the “available” amount will be £800.

I cancelled a Direct Debit, why is this still showing?

Direct Debits after being cancelled, will still show for at least 15 months – for your records. Don’t worry, the cancellation has taken place.

What is the customer number for digital banking?

This will be the number you were issued with when you first registered for digital banking (online banking). It is a 10 digit number that starts with your date of birth.
