Why is Interfaith Action important?

London is one of the most diverse cities in the world. In London people of every ethnic permutation live together. 300 different languages are being spoken at any time. This diversity is a great strength, allowing London to endlessly adapt and re-invent, to perpetually be at the cutting edge of world culture.

Unfortunately, most of the world's other communities are not so diverse. Many of them are divided and isolated, riven with tensions and conflict caused by tribalism and ignorance. These world-wide conflicts are taking their toll everywhere, including London.

The myths and fears resulting from these conflicts, the July 7 bombings, and the 600% increase in religious hate crime that followed, undermines the great potential of the mix of religions and cultures in the UK.

Never before has it been so important to build understanding between cultures, to foster dialogue between religions and dissipate any hatred that might be encouraged within our communities.
