Social Volunteering

Are you interested in joining together with others to make a positive contribution to your community and wider society, whilst gaining some valuable experience?

Projects might include:

    • Assisting an elderly person with their gardening
    • Mentoring
    • Advocacy work
    • Campaigning for social justice
    • Repairing and decorating a community centre or school
    • Visiting and befriending the elderly
    • Citizenship and crime projects

Our 'Faith and Social Justice' sheet tells you

One of the areas in which faith can unarguably be a force for good is social cohesion. Compassion, generosity and forgiveness are values shared by all the major faiths. Many community projects exist for the benefit of those in need or most vulnerable. Inter-Act proposes to unite these two elements by giving young people the opportunity to take part through volunteering.

The existing network of volunteering organisations is a valuable resource and represents an opportunity to improve faith relations in communities. Inter-Act works in partnership with these groups to get people of different faiths to work together on volunteering projects. Not only do these projects allow members of different faiths to get to know one another and come to see each other as peers, it also makes valuable and genuine contributions to the community.
