Interfaith: Dialogue and Action

Dialogue as a tool for understanding

Dialogue is the most common avenue for interfaith groups to pursue to increase understanding between faiths. The purpose of interfaith dialogue is for members of different faiths to learn about other beliefs. In doing so they may discover shared values, or they may dispell some of the myths created around some religions.

Please visit our message board and make your opinions heard. The results of these consultations will be made public and given to ministers. Alternatively enjoy yourself at one of our events. To learn about shared values between faiths, visit our page giving examples from scripture of different religions' tolerant attitudes to each other, called Tolerance between Faiths. You can find links to many national and international interfaith groups at our Resources page.

Action as an opportunity for unlimited co-operation

Interact believe that the best way for faiths to come together is through working together. While some faiths may have to agree to disagree about some theological points, by working together individuals discover that members of all faiths share more in common than some religious values: the wish to make a positive contribution to the community and the environment.

Working together on community projects creates tangible benefits to the community. Real improvements also create a sense of worth and empowerment for those who brought them about.

Working in partnership also brings an opportunity for people from diffrent faith or cultural communities to get to know each other away from their faith. In times when dialogue is required, connections to other faith groups made as individuals rather than as "Christians" or "Muslims" are invaluable.

Interact

Interact's focus is on creating the opportunity for joint participation between faiths and cultural groups. We also help to run events which involve dialogue. For more information, contact us, or browse the website to find out what we do.
